Taghazout Skatepark: A Community-Driven Oasis for Skaters in Morocco

About Taghazout Skatepark Taghazout Skatepark, located in the coastal town of Taghazout, Morocco, is a popular destination for skaters and surfers alike. This skatepark is renowned for its scenic backdrop, with the park overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, offering skaters a unique experience surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes. The skatepark was developed as part of efforts to build a vibrant youth culture in Taghazout, a place already known for its surfing spots. It features a variety of ramps, bowls, and other obstacles suited for both beginners and experienced skaters. The design incorporates natural colors and materials, blending seamlessly into the surrounding environment, making it a perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors while skating. Taghazout’s skatepark is part of a growing sports culture in Morocco, drawing skaters from across the country and even from abroad, particularly those who also come for the famous surfing scene.   Inside Taghazout Skatepark: A Look at the Association’s Efforts     Since December 2017 Taghazout Skatepark Association has been managing the DIY spot that was built by Make Life Skate Life, we had government support for the first 2 years but since the covid 19 pandemic started in 2020 there has been no support to associations, since then we’ve been supporting our NGO by renting boards, giving lessons to tourists and visitors and selling our shirts and goods, of course membership and local skaters never pay for loaning boards and protection.   In this video, Ali President of Taghazout Skatepark Association explains how things are going in our NGO starting from making a skate museum inside the container with some images during the building and the opening ceremony from the Skatejawn mag from NY and the famous legendary skater Arto Saari and of course also some tools that were used during the built of the skatepark and an example of the gifts that were given to more than 100 builders from more than 20 countries. Ali continued the visit and showed the loaner complete skate and surf skate that members of our association can use from opening hour 10 am till sunset 7/7   He also showed the first aid kid that we have inside in case of an injury, although the association offers helmets and protection gear most of the kids prefer to not use them which causes some bad injuries sometimes, Ali explained that the association takes care of at least 10 skaters every month, offering them monthly support like decks and wheels and a pair of trucks two times per year. Those skaters can keep their complete setups inside the container.   The association offers also tools, and accessories like bearings, bushings, and wheels to a lot of skaters when something is broken during their session here. Filming this video was done around noon when a lot of kids from surrounding villages to Taghazout like Aitbihi and ifraden has a school break not far from the college in taghazout center 10 mn walk from our skatepark. During filming we also met one of the good skaters in Our DIy giving skate lessons, our NGO is calling few skaters to give lessons to tourists in case someone is booking with us , half of benefits goes to the instructor and the other half to the association for gear rent what make the skaters make incomes knowing that most of them are not originally from taghazout area . Some other skaters are making their own business like Jtata vintage shop who sells vintage clothing next to argan tree and same time skate when free time and this is exactly how community spaces should be as Ali explained. He also talks about how the association is hiring 3 workers to make sure skatepark is clean and swapped every day , calling trash truck to pick it up once in a week , during the vlog visit ali showed the new garden and water tank that can be used to water the garden and let skaters have clean water in the water tap , we also have a Toilet , many plants and a prayer Area . By 6 pm weekend time we always have some local or international Dj s who make good vibes until sunset for skaters and visitors who pass by to watch the sunset and skaters, during this week we had Hicham Birox from Tamraght who had an Awsome playlist. In our way to meet the best skater kid Saad , we saw the famous tea man Zakaria who sells his tea every sunset time and also have his little skate session. We met saad in the little ramp behind the skatepark where he was warming up before going to the small skatepark in the other side . ali believes that supporting Kids like saad will make them future champions and thats exactly what Taghazout skate Park association is doing. Taghazout skate Park association is organizing a contests at least 4 times a year to make local skaters focus in next ones and put some money into their pockets. The picture is featuring distribution of Awards to the winners of taghazout skate contest during the sport and music festival of taghazout last summer .   Conclusion: Taghazout Skatepark – A Skating Oasis with a Community Spirit Taghazout Skatepark is more than just a place to skate; it’s a thriving community hub where skaters from all walks of life come together. Thanks to the dedication of the Taghazout Skatepark Association, local skaters and international visitors alike experience a welcoming, supportive environment that fosters talent and community spirit. With its DIY skateboarding culture, regular events, and initiatives to empower local youth, Taghazout Skatepark stands as a symbol of resilience and unity on Morocco’s coast. Whether you’re a skateboarder or simply a visitor, Taghazout’s skatepark offers a unique blend of energy, artistry, and unforgettable views.
